A Red Brick Sanctuary, an Artistic Utopia in Southern Yunnan
The Maitreya Dongfengyun MGallery Hotel Collection, which elegantly opened in 2020, is a dazzling masterpiece of Accor Group's high-end hotel collection. Located in the heart of the Dongfengyun Art Town, within the golden climate and ecological zone of 25° North latitude, the hotel is surrounded by vineyards, lavender fields, and a large number of post-modern buildings, creating a utopian retreat for those seeking tranquility and relaxation.
The project's architecture, under the original "simple, unadorned, and authentic" creative vision of renowned Chinese artist Luo Xu, draws inspiration from the Yi ethnic group's traditional earthen houses. It cleverly integrates red bricks, glass, stone, and wood finishes. Six groups of surrealist curved wall buildings are clad in red brick walls that echo the local red soil, paying homage to local pottery and winemaking traditions. The project has won numerous international awards, including the 2022 French Versailles Design Award (Outdoor Special Award), the German iF Design Award, and the American HD Awards.
The dining experience is innovative and diverse. The Yin Yue All-Day Dining Restaurant can accommodate 200 guests, offering a buffet breakfast and à la carte service combining local flavors and international cuisine. The elegant Hui Jing Chinese Restaurant features three private dining rooms (Maitreya Misty Rain, Yuanyang Cloud Viewing, Jianshui Elegant Charm), focusing on new-style Yunnan and Cantonese cuisine. The lobby bar offers exquisite afternoon tea and signature cocktails, where a dialogue between food and art unfolds.
The hotel boasts 232 spacious and comfortable guest rooms and suites, 61 of which feature private hot spring pools, supplied with rare natural metasilicic acid weakly alkaline hot spring water from 2500 meters underground. The Zhuyao room type, starting from 48 square meters, incorporates the essence of traditional Yunnan craftsmanship into its design language. Techniques of painting, pottery, dyeing, and music composition are transformed into spatial narratives. A V-shaped minimalist structure is combined with rattan elements, and luxurious amenities such as B&O sound systems are included. All guest rooms feature panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, framing the lake and mountain scenery into a flowing masterpiece. The courtyard's interplay of light and shadow shifts with the sun, and every detail, imbued with the warmth of handcrafted artistry, pays homage to the local culture.
A 1300-square-meter outdoor terraced swimming pool extends to the lake, and together with the 400-square-meter indoor meeting room, forms a dynamic event space. The hotel also collaborates with the Dongfengyun Muxingu Hot Spring Healing Center, located 257 meters away, which features 19 functional hot spring pools themed around "a half-acre of tranquil springs amidst a forest ambiance." Here, architecture is not merely built, but nurtured—it breathes the wind, light, earth, and memories of Mile, growing into a living, breathing city of art within the folds of red brick.
