Differences Between Log Furniture, Solid Wood Furniture and Plywood Furniture

1. Log Furniture:

Raw materials are large lumber planks sawn from whole logs of the same tree species, with no veneer or PVC laminate applied.

Features:

Each panel is a single piece of wood, or may include a small amount of finger jointing and board splicing to extend the length. It features a strong sense of continuous wood grain and a premium tactile feel, and every piece has its own unique grain pattern and natural color variations;

It requires extremely high standards for wood drying and structural design, otherwise cracking and deformation are likely to occur;

High material wastage and processing difficulty result in the relatively most expensive price.

2. Solid Wood Furniture:

Raw materials are mainly natural wood, including solid wood planks, finger-jointed panels/glued laminated lumber, and solid wood multi-layer plywood.

As long as the main load-bearing components (such as legs, frames, and tabletops) are made of solid wood or engineered wood, it can be called “solid wood furniture,” even if some back panels or drawer bottoms use plywood or MDF;

It offers a balanced performance in terms of environmental friendliness, texture, and stability;

Costs can be controlled while maintaining texture through splicing and the use of small wood pieces;

3. Plywood Furniture:

Raw materials are various engineered wood panels, including particleboard (chipboard), medium-density fiberboard (MDF), multi-layer boards and plywood.

Features:

Decorative layers such as wood veneer or PVC can be applied to the engineered wood panels to achieve an appearance similar to solid wood;

Standardized dimensions and modular construction make it suitable for cabinetry such as wardrobes and kitchen cabinets;

While heavily dependent on the environmental grade of adhesives and panels, it is cost-effective, offering the best value for money, and allows flexible design and molding.
